Suffolk Technologies Announces Investment in Sublime Systems and Support for Breakthrough Cement Manufacturing Technology
Suffolk Technologies, the institutional venture capital platform affiliated with innovative builder Suffolk, today announced an investment in Sublime Systems, an advanced technology company revolutionizing the production of cement through a breakthrough electrochemical process that reduces emissions and waste. The investment underscores Suffolk Technologies’ commitment to investing in the foundational companies of the future and accelerating their progress to build tomorrow, today. In addition to Suffolk Technologies’ investment, Suffolk has pre-purchased capacity from Sublime’s forthcoming first commercial manufacturing plant in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Cement is one of the most carbon-intensive materials in the world, responsible for roughly eight percent of global CO₂ emissions. Sublime’s innovative manufacturing process replaces the traditional combustion-driven kiln with a proprietary ambient temperature electrochemical process to produce a superior cement that dramatically reduces carbon emissions and has a path to achieve cost parity at scale with conventional portland cement.
“Suffolk Technologies’ early investment and partnership are a powerful validation of Sublime’s technology and our mission,” said Sublime Systems CEO and Co-founder Dr Leah Ellis. “Bringing a new cement to market requires collaboration across the construction supply chain, and Suffolk is serving a critical role as a visionary general contractor to facilitate the widespread adoption of low-carbon Sublime Cement, enabling us to more quickly realize our shared commitment for a sustainable construction future.”
The partnership reflects Suffolk Technologies’ broader mission to accelerate the development and adoption of cutting-edge technologies that drive efficiency, sustainability, and transformation in the built environment.
“This is more than an investment—it’s a statement about the future of construction,” said Jit Kee Chin, EVP and Chief Technology Officer at Suffolk and Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Suffolk Technologies. “Sublime’s mission is no less than fundamentally reshaping a cornerstone of the global built environment landscape, and we are proud to support them through our capital, our network, and our commitment to building a more sustainable world.”
Suffolk Technologies continues to play a leading role in identifying, investing in, and accelerating solutions that address the built environment’s toughest problems—from labor shortages to carbon reduction. Furthermore, this partnership reinforces Suffolk’s larger vision to “redefine how America builds” by backing technologies that reshape traditional construction methods.
