Honda Honors Indirect Procurement Suppliers Supporting Operations in Ohio and Indiana

Honda honored 21 suppliers that provide indirect products and services to five Honda manufacturing plants in Ohio and Indiana and corporate operations at Honda North America, Inc. during its annual Honda Indirect Procurement Supplier Conference at the Honda Heritage Center in Marysville, Ohio.

Award winners provided products and services for auto plants in Marysville and East Liberty, Ohio, and Greensburg, Ind. as well as the operations of Honda's engine plant in Anna, Ohio, its transmission plant in Russells Point, Ohio and Honda North America, Inc. in Marysville, Ohio. Indirect purchasing for business and manufacturing operations in Indiana and Ohio from more than 2,200 suppliers totaled $2.55 billion during calendar year 2017.

"As Honda approaches its 60th year of business in North America, we would not be where we are today without all of the great supplier partners that have supported us along the way," said Monica Oliverio, manager of the North American Indirect Procurement Department at Honda of America Mfg., Inc. "We want to thank our suppliers for the important role they continue to play in Honda's success by bringing new ideas and value to our business."

Unlike suppliers that provide parts and materials for the mass production of Honda products, the more than 5,000 North American suppliers categorized as "indirect procurement" provide Honda companies with a wide variety of equipment, products and services that support business operations and the manufacturing of automobiles, engines and transmissions. Many of these local and national companies have grown along with Honda in North America since the company began production in Ohio in 1979.

The 21 award-winning suppliers were honored for achievements in the categories of Outstanding Value, Performance Excellence, Special Recognition and Supplier of the Year.

Honda Manufacturing in the U.S.

Honda has one of the largest and most diverse U.S. manufacturing footprints of any international company operating in America. Honda has been producing automobiles in America for more than 35 years and currently operates 12 major U.S. manufacturing facilities, employing more than 20,000 associates in the production of Honda and Acura automobiles, Honda power equipment products, Honda powersports products, the HondaJet advanced light jet and GE Honda HF120 turbofan engines.

In 2017, Honda produced 1.2 million automobiles in the United States, and 65 percent of all Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the U.S. were made in America, using domestic and globally sourced parts.

Cumulatively, Honda has invested more than $20 billion in its U.S. sales, manufacturing and R&D operations, including more than $4 billion in new manufacturing investment over the past four years.
