Camarillo man killed in motorcycle, vehicle collision late Sunday

A collision between a vehicle and motorcycle reported late Sunday just north of Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu claimed the life of a 30-year-old Camarillo man, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Nicholas Shelton was killed in the collision which occurred just before 11:55 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Hueneme and Naval Air roads.

According to the CHP, Shelton was riding his motorcycle westbound on Hueneme Road when he collided with a vehicle, driven by a 47-year-old Oxnard man, that had been traveling southbound onto Naval Air Road.

Shelton was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the intersection, officials said. The 47-year-old driver of the vehicle reportedly pulled his vehicle over to the right side of Naval Air Road.

Oxnard fire and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene where Shelton was pronounced dead.

CHP officials said there were no witnesses to the collision although a passing motorist contacted 911 to report the incident shortly after it occurred.

The collision remains under investigation by the Ventura-area CHP.
