A Melbourne motorcyclist has died as a result of his injuries several days after an Eau Gallie Boulevard crash left him hospitalized, according to police.

Officers initially responded to the crash just after 6 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevardf and Mosswood Drive to find 18-year-old Brandon Thurber of Melbourne with life-threatening injuries.

Thurber was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries, police said.

Crash reports indicate Thurber was traveling west on Eau Gallie Boulevard at a "high rate of speed" at the time of the crash.

The other driver, identified as 67-year-old Girish Shah of West Melbourne, was heading east on Eau Gallie Boulevard in the left turn lane when he turned into Thurber's path, police said. Thurber then struck the side of Shah's vehicle and was ejected from his motorcycle.

Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the crash.

Melbourne Police Department's traffic enforcement unit continues to investigate the crash.
