EMMANUEL Bako, fresh from sweeping the board at last weekend’s final round of the Northern Regions Motocross Championships in South Africa, will be the star attraction during tomorrow’s penultimate round of the 2018 Bogwheelers Club’s Club Championship event at Donnybrook in Harare.

The Bogwheelers Club run the exciting motorcycling sport of motocross in Zimbabwe and each year they hold two different events – a National Championship series and a Club Championship one – where all the country’s top junior and senior female and male riders take part in.

And tomorrow will see the Bogwheelers Club staging the penultimate round of their Club Championship series which will be open to all the classes ranging from the PeeWees, which is designed for riders under the age of seven, to the main MX1 Class.

Most of the country’s top junior and senior riders are expected to be in action and leading this pool of bikers will be 13-year-old Bako who is expected to arrive at Donnybrook brimming with confidence after he won both the 65cc and 85cc (Juniors) classes during last weekend’s final round of the 2018 South African Northern Regions Championships at Dirt Bronco in Krugersdorp.

Bako’s father and manager, Brighton, yesterday confirmed that his talented son will be back riding at his “home turf” at Donnybrook where he will compete in both the 65cc and 85cc classes.

“Emmanuel is definitely going to race in Sunday’s Club event at Donnybrook where he will once again be showcasing his motocross riding skills. He had a good and memorable outing during last weekend’s final round of the Northern Regions Championships at Dirt Bronco in South Africa and hopefully he will continue with his fine form at home at Donnybrook on Sunday.

“Emmanuel will be using Sunday’s event at Donnybrook to fine-tune himself for the final round of the 2018 South African National Championship series which will be held at Dirt Bronco on October 20,” Brighton Bako said.

Tomorrow at Donnybrook, Emmanuel Bako will be joined on the track “by the usual suspects”, fellow talented riders Daiyaan “D” Manuel, Munyaradzi Bako, Tristan Grainger, Ricky Whyte, seasoned campaigner Ashley Thixton and his brother Cameron.

The country’s other top junior and senior riders such as Dillaan Fassen, Jordan Dewdney, Daniel Law, Tristan Versfeld, John Evans, Hamish Perry, Joshua Goby, Jayden Young, Jamie Doran, Luke Southon, Karl van As, Callum Moore and Willen Krause are also expected to be in action at Donnybrook.

Racing starts at 10am and entry fee for the spectators has been pegged at $5 per person while children under the age of 12 will get in for free. There will be full bar and catering as well as entertainment for the kids.

Yasmin Manuel, the secretary of the Bogwheelers Club, said yesterday that after staging tomorrow’s race meeting, they will have another Club event and two more National events before they host the season-ending Zimbabwe Summer Series which is scheduled for the second week of December.

This year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series will once again consist of two Supercross (night racing) events, which will be held on December 12 and 14; and a motocross race meeting on December 16.

Yasmin Manuel said they were once again expecting all the top junior and senior riders from neighbouring countries Botswana, South Africa and Zambia to make their way to Harare for this year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series.
