Our Bureau The two-wheeler arm of BMW Group, BMW Motorrad India, on Wednesday launched the all-new G310 R and G310 GS motorcycles priced at ₹2.99 lakh and ₹3.49 lakh respectively (ex-showroom).

Powered by a 313 cc engine, both the bikes can achieve a top speed of 143 km/hr.

The motorcycles developed by BMW Motorrad in Munich will be produced at TVS Motor’s Hosur plant, in keeping with the partnership between the two companies.

Existing players

Designed from scratch, the G310 R and the G310 GS represent everything BMW Motorrad stands for and mark its foray into the sub-500 CC segment in India, the company said.

Companies such as Honda Motorcycle, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company are also present in the segment.

“Whether it is performance, quality or handling, BMW Motorrad captures the pulse of true motorcyclists. Bringing the brand’s formidable experience and premium aspirations to the sub-500 cc segment, the BMW G310 R and G310 GS have opened up another important chapter in BMW Motorrad’s history and will lay a strong foundation for future growth,” said Dimitris Raptis, Head of Region, Asia, China, Pacific and South Africa, BMW Motorrad.

He further said the company considers India an important market for growth. BMW Motorrad started selling its premium range of motorcycles here last year and sold 252 units within nine months of launch.

The company has already sold 248 units in the first quarter of this year.

BMW Motorrad said it will have 10 outlets nationwide by the first quarter of next year from the current seven.

Wide range

Raptis said the company would like to introduce its entire range in the country. Globally, Motorrad sells around 30 models, including variants and editions. In India, the portfolio contains 16 models including the two new ones.

Raptis also said Motorrad aims to sell two lakh units by 2020 globally, driven by new models and new segments. The company sold a total of around 1.64 lakh units last year, a growth of 15 per cent over 2016.

BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said: “Both the offerings are set to redefine their segment as they are ideal for young people, novices, returning riders and many other motorcyclists.”
