Rider critical after crashing stolen motorcycle in Las Vegas

Updated October 24, 2017 - 5:02 am

A man was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday morning after crashing a stolen motorcycle in the central valley.

The crash was reported at 1:25 a.m. on South Topaz Street near Tropicana Avenue, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Sgt. Robert Stauffer of Metro’s fatal crash detail said no one witnessed the crash. It was reported by a passing driver who saw the Yamaha XVS 950 and rider, a man between 25 and 30 years old, down on Topaz Street.

The initial investigation showed the man, who did not appear to be wearing a helmet, was thrown off the motorcycle after he crashed into a block wall and a utility pole. The rider was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in “extremely critical condition” with head trauma, Stauffer said.

The Yamaha was reported stolen Saturday night, Stauffer said.
