Pueblo coroner IDs second person killed in May 31 motorcycle wreck

A second victim killed in a fatal motorcycle crash has been identified by the Pueblo County coroner.

Jessica Lee Madrid, 37, died on June 6 from injuries sustained in a May 31 crash that also claimed the life of her husband, John Jacob Madrid.

A Colorado State Patrol Spokesperson told the Chieftain the crash occurred May 31 at approximately 7:15 p.m. when Jacob Madrid's Harley-Davidson motorcycle was driving southbound on 29th Lane near the stop sign at South Road. Jessica Madrid was on the bike as a passenger.

Meanwhile, a Hyundai Tucson SUV driven by a 28-year-old man was traveling east on South Road approaching 29th Street.

The Harley failed to yield and proceeded through the stop sign before being struck by the Hyundai in the eastbound lane of South Road, according to CSP.

The Harley came to rest just south of the South Road edge, both of its occupants were ejected.

Meanwhile, the SUV veered off the right side of the road and came to rest on its wheels. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, had no apparent injuries.

Neither Jacob nor Jessica Madrid was wearing a helmet or any other safety equipment at the time of the crash, according to CSP. Both were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where Jacob Madrid later died. Jessica Madrid died six days later at a regional hospital, according to the coroner's office.
