Explore Savanna: Where outdoor adventure meets small-town charm
SAVANNA, Ill. (KWQC) -The City of Savanna achieved an amazing acknowledgement for three consecutive years in being named “Best Small Town For Adventure” from 2021-2023 in USA Today’s national contest.
Additionally, the Mississippi River town was also nominated in a second category for ‘Best Midwestern Small Town” and placed #6.
Brienna Junk, marketing director for Explore Savanna, talks about about the area being a hidden gem along the Mississippi River--rich with natural beauty, history, and a welcoming community spirit including an historic downtown.
The area is also among the top outdoor adventure destinations of Northwest Illinois. The Mississippi Palisades State Park, with its hiking trails, rock formations, scenic overlooks, and rock climbing is a wonderful site to spend time, for instance.
Savanna is also popular for biking, boating, and several spots motorcycle tourism, and more.

- Makers on the Mississippi: Sunday, June 22 | Artists painting murals on the riverfront, chalk the walk for the kids along Marquette Park, and vendors
- Savanna Farmers Market: Every other Sunday at Polar Express Pavillion, follow the Facebook page for dates
- Savanna’s 4th of July Bash: July 5 featuring a parade, events at high school, fireworks.
- Summerween July 19: Spooktacular Fundraiser at the high school parking Lot for Halloween featuring kids’ games, bounce houses, vendors and more.
