The final suspect who was wanted in connection with a deadly shooting that happened at Morrill's Corner in Portland last summer is now in custody.Kristofer Haken, 46, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, turned himself in to New Hampshire Probation and Parole on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals in the District of Maine obtained a federal arrest warrant for Haken that charged him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Authorities said Haken surrendered approximately 24 hours after the arrest warrant and wanted poster were issued.U.S. Marshals said Haken was transported to a New Hampshire correctional facility, where he is currently being held. Haken will be extradited to Maine to face federal and state charges.Haken has been wanted by the Portland Police Department since November 2024, when he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Those charges are connected to a Forest Avenue shooting on July 30, 2024, that killed 54-year-old Susan McHugh, of Gray, and left three men injured, including McHugh's husband. As a result of the charges brought against him by Portland police, New Hampshire Probation and Parole obtained an arrest warrant for Haken charging him for a parole violation.The U.S. Marshals said that Haken was briefly arrested in Vermont last month as a fugitive from justice, but he received and posted bail with a promise to appear. Haken failed to show up for his Vermont court appearance, which led to a warrant for his arrest from the Hartford Police Department.Police said Haken is believed to be a member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. Video played during a court hearing of another man charged in the shooting showed that an altercation between two motorcycle gangs happened on the night of July 30, 2024, less than an hour before another altercation that escalated to shots being fired. Nearly 20 gunshots were heard on surveillance video from the area at the time of the shooting.Six other men were charged in connection with the deadly shooting in Portland.Aaron Karp, 48, of Naples, Maine, was originally charged with one count of intentional or knowing murder in McHugh's death. But on April 10, Karp pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but 10 years of that sentence were suspended.Haken and the five other defendants charged in the shooting — Caleb Pelkey, Kaleb Cidre, James Moody, Nathan Walsh and Jason Kennan — will likely be tried in court together after a judge agreed to combine the cases during a March hearing.
