Motorcyclist killed in collision at State Route 49 intersection in Darke County

DARKE COUNTY, Ohio (WKEF) -- A man has died after being ejected from his motorcycle in Arcanum.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 49 and Hollansburg-Sampson Road with reports of a motor accident with injuries on April 28 at approximately 7:33 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office said that Deputies found that a red 2024 Kawasaki Ninja, driven by 52-year-old Steven Copenhaver, was traveling northwest on the road.

A white 2016 GMC Terrain driven by 64-year-old Rebecca Harleman began to turn and cross over State Route 49 after being stopped at the stop sign, but failed to stop for Copenhaver.

He was hit, and deputies say he was ejected from his motorcycle.

When deputies arrived, CPR was immediately administered, but Copenhaven ultimately died at the scene.

According to deputies, he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The accident is being investigated by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
