A motorcyclist from Oregon died in a solo crash about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday when he went off a curve on westbound Highway 120 near Sims Road and was thrown off his 2008 Honda Interceptor, the Sonora area California Highway Patrol said.
The 68-year-old man was a resident of Portland. His name had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon pending notification of family.
He was riding west on his Interceptor, also known as a VFR800, at an undetermined speed on Highway 120 west of Sims Road, just west of the Chinese Camp Store and Tavern, according to the CHP.
For an unknown reason, the motorcyclist failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road and the Honda went onto the north shoulder of the highway, where it overturned and he was ejected, the CHP said. The motorcyclist suffered a fatal injury, and the Intercepter sustained major damage.
“The rider was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of this crash and drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor,” the CHP said Tuesday. “This crash remains under investigation.”
