I’ve shared overseas riding videos from various countries here at Weekend Watch before, but one of the most popular ones we ever showed you was YU.SR500’s footage from Japan. Well, here’s another look at the country, from the junkmotorcycle YouTube channel.

It’s a bit of a different take. Some videos have a lot of old, half-ratty bikes with a lot of American machines compared to the Euro and Japanese motorcycles that YU.SR500 focuses on. But I think that’s one of the most fascinating things about Japanese motorcycle culture. Although their country has arguably been the most consistent manufacturer of the world’s best motorcycles for half a century, there are many Japanese motorcyclists who are just as obsessed with Harley-Davidsons and other non-performance machines.

Although, if you consider Harley-Davidson’s history with Japanese manufacturing, maybe it’s no surprise.

The junkmotorcycle channel will take you to the mountains and hills of Japan, as well as simple around-town rides.

If you like what you see, there’s lots more at the junkmotorcycle channel here. Lots of these videos have English subtitles so even if you don’t speak Japanese, you can get the general gist of what they’re saying.

Once again, I’m inspired to go ride Japan for myself. Or at least, I would love to go if I could afford it, which is the whole point of watching these overseas riding videos; it’s basically low-priced escapism. But if you do have the money to travel to Japan, here’s a video from Mark Miller sharing rental advice, if you want to go that route:
