Dar es Salaam. The second edition of the Main FM Cup will start next month, the tournament organizers have announced.

The tournament will feature 16 teams, according to Mainstream Media Director and Main FM Co-Director, Pascal William Chuwa.

Chuwa said that the ambitious football tournament aims to scout and nurture young talent while promoting social development and community empowerment throughout the Kigoma Region.

“I sincerely thank all of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to be part of this momentous day,” Chuwa said, addressing a diverse audience of football fans, youth from the informal transport sector, local leaders, and members of the media.

He said that the Main FM Cup 2025 is poised to be one of the region’s most inclusive and dynamic football competitions.

Chuwa explained that the tournament is specifically tailored for young people working in the informal transport industry—namely riders of two-wheeled motorcycles (boda boda) and three-wheeled motorcycles (bajaji).

“The tournament will run from May through August, with matches taking place in various districts across Kigoma. The stakes are high, with the champion team set to take home a cash prize of Sh1.5 million, while the second-place winner will get Sh1 million,” he said.

Chuwa added that there will be additional awards worth Sh2 million to be presented to outstanding individual players for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament.

“This tournament is not just about the game. It’s about creating opportunity—empowering our youth, recognizing their potential, and giving them a platform to grow both socially and economically,” said Chuwa.

He said that the tournament will be accompanied by educational initiatives focused on three main areas: road safety awareness, critical socio-economic education, and green economy opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

“These sessions are aimed at ensuring youth become not only players on the field but also active participants in Tanzania’s development story.” Chuwa went on to acknowledge the vital partnerships that have made the tournament possible.

He thanked the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), boda boda and bajaji associations, and all local supporters for their ongoing collaboration. Special appreciation was extended to the 2024 sponsors, including Azam TV, YAS Tanzania, Oryx Gas, Takukuru, Tanesco, Kivumo Investment, and others who helped establish the tournament’s credibility during its inaugural season.

He also singled out Trepple E Garage from Dar es Salaam for their generous contribution in educating youth on vehicle safety and maintenance—further underlining the event’s holistic approach to community development.
