A California motorcycle cop has just made history.

Officer Mark Wright lost his leg back in 2022.

He was on his way home from work when he hit an abandoned car on the side of the road. His left leg had to be amputated.

Officer Wright was fitted for a prosthetic leg and wanted to go back to riding a motorcycle for the police department.

To do that, he says he had to learn how to shift gears with his new foot.

It was a challenge but after three weeks of practice and training, Officer Wright was able to achieve his dream of riding a motorcycle for his department once again.

"Me losing my leg, there's a lot of people who thought I was crazy for getting back on the motorcycle," Officer Wright says.

Lt. Dan Hall with the San Diego Police says, "Everybody has hardships in their life, but this young man ended up taking a catastrophic injury that anyone would think would be catastrophic to their life and did not deviate one iota from his dream."

Now that he's back on the bike, Officer Wright is the first amputee motorcycle police officer in the country.

He says this achievement reinforces his belief that he can accomplish anything that comes his way.
