The District Cinema, formerly a Regal Movie Theater, to reopen Friday with fundraiser for Muncy fire company

The District Cinema at the former Lycoming Mall is reopening with a blend of new releases and retro films Friday, and all proceeds from the retro showings will be donated to the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire Company, a recent news release announced.

“We are grateful for their dedication and courage, and we hope this donation will help them continue their noble work,” Dipson Theatres President Michael Clement said of the fire company.

Day-to-day operations will be overseen by Dipson Theatres, a cinema operator dating back to 1939. Famvest is very excited that District Cinema LLC and Dipson Theaters Inc. have partnered to revive the cinema at The District at Lycoming Valley, the news release added.

Bald Birds Brewing Company will operate a canned beer and mixed-drink pop-up for the soft opening weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Guests can enjoy a variety of craft beverages from the local brewery while watching the movies.

The District Cinema’s owners have plans for renovations. Changes will include the installation of heated electric reclining seats, revamped concession offerings and a complete overhaul of the lobby with upgraded carpeting, painting and lighting. Additionally, the exterior of the building will receive a fresh new look once weather permits, including a new exterior sign, the release said.

“I’m happy to see life returning to the old mall area,” said Gary Harmon, chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Muncy Township. Harmon thanked the District Cinema for its continued support of the Muncy Township Community. “It is greatly appreciated on all fronts.”
