HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On the Valley Isle, a motorcyclist died Thursday in a crash along the Maui Veterans Highway.

It happened just before 7:45 a.m. south of the Maui Baseyard Road in Kahului. Police say the driver, Logan Ladwig, 33, was on a 2022 Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle heading north.

Police say Ladwig was speeding and weaving through traffic to pass vehicles when he hit the rear of another vehicle. The driver was then thrown from the bike, and he landed on the road.

Authorities say he died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported in this incident.

Investigators found that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed is believed to be a factor.

This marks Maui County’s fourth traffic-related death of 2024 so far this year.
