Stock of licensed motor vehicles increased on average by 43 per day in Q2In the second quarter the stock of licensed motor vehicles increased by 3,902 over the previous quarter, with the stock at 408,205 by the end of June, the National Statistics Office said today. The means that it increased at a net average rate of 43 motor vehicles per day.

Out of this total, 76.2% were passenger cars, 13.8% were commercial motor vehicles, 8.9% were motorcycles/quadricycles and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), while buses and minibuses amounted to less than one per cent.

Newly licensed motor vehicles put on the road during the period under review amounted to 5,887. The NSO noted that the majority of the newly licensed motor vehicles, 3,346 or 56.8% of the total, were passenger cars, followed by motorcycle/E- bicycle/PA-Bicycle with 1,932 or 32.8%.

Newly licensed ‘new’ motor vehicles amounted to 3,489 or 59.3% of the total, whereas newly licensed ‘used’ motor vehicles totalled 2,398 or 40.7%. An average of 65 motor vehicles per day were newly licensed during the quarter under review.

7,824 motor vehicles were taken off the road due to a restriction during the second quarter. Out of these, 36.7% were scrapped, 31.3% were garaged, while 30.3% were put up for resale.

The NSO noted that motor vehicles that had their restriction ending during the quarter under review totalled 5,784. The majority were recorded as being garaged (52.2%) or resold (47.0%).

As at the end of June 2021, 241,609 motor vehicles or 59.2% of the total had petrol-powered engines. Diesel-powered motor vehicles reached 156,365 or 38.3% of the total. Electric and hybrid motor vehicles accounted for 2.0% of the entire stock, with a total of 8,367 motor vehicles.

When compared to the previous quarter, increases of 28.2%, 21.6% and 12.7% were registered in the Electric, Hybrid (Electric/ Diesel), and Hybrid(Electric/Petrol) motor vehicles respectively, the NSO said.

      This will stop when like other countries road side parking will have meters. Our government don’t give a dam about this problem and kisses the car importers B.
