JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 25-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday evening with critical injuries after crashing his motorcycle into the carport of a home on Elvita Drive, just off Merrill Road.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the man missed a turn, before riding through a yard and hit the support beam of the carport. He was thrown over the handlebars and headfirst into the side of the cinderblock house.

Police said there was no other traffic in the area just before 9 p.m. when the crash occurred.
The homeowner rushed to help and stayed with the man until paramedics arrived. His injuries were considered life-threatening.
He was not wearing a helmet, had no driver’s license and didn’t own the motorcycle, police said.
