A Dutch mother narrowly avoided being gunned down by a hit man in her own driveway when he opened fire as she went to put out the bins

The 39-year-old had just made breakfast for her teenage daughter when she went to put the bins out on May 7, and found herself looking down the barrel of a gun.

CCTV footage released this week by police shows how a would-be assassin wearing a motorcycle helmet walked up to her before pulling out a silenced pistol.

He fires several shots as she flees, before running back the way he came.

The woman, who has not been identified, was hit by a single bullet but it passed straight through her arm, leaving her with only minor injuries.

Her daughter helped to staunch the bleeding before she was taken to hospital.

The victim said: 'My daughter acted like an adult. She put a cloth against the bleeding and immediately called the emergency services and her dad.

'You do not want to put a child through this. As a mother you are helpless and that is very bad, maybe the worst thing of all.'

Officers have not revealed a motive for the attempted killing, though say it may be related to a spate of drug-related shootings in Eindhoven the previous year.

The woman has denied that her family has any connection to organised crime, and says she has no idea why she was targeted.

The footage was put out as part of a police appeal and aired on Dutch TV on Monday.

Describing her ordeal on the show, she said: 'Each Monday it is rubbish bin day and I put out the bin.

'I saw something but did not really know what was going on. Then I saw a dark spot running quickly towards me and I saw a man with a gun and a silencer on it.

'I did not notice I was hit. I saw that he pointed the gun at me, but in such a moment you are full of adrenaline.

'The only thing which you want to do is survive and go inside. Just to be safe.'

Police say the gunman fled on the back of a motorbike being driven by a second person and has not been traced.

'It is almost unbelievable what we see here,' a police spokesman said.

Five people were shot in Eindhoven between March and August last year, including a 37-year-old gunned down at a caravan camp.

Several caravans were also set alight, before another man, aged 51, was shot and killed in October.
