WOODBURN, Ore. – A Washington state man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Oregon on Thursday evening, police said.

Oregon state troopers responded to the crash scene, on Highway 219 and Mahony Road NE, at about 5:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, later identified as John Stewart, 75, of Port Angeles, Wash., was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that Stewart was riding north on Highway 219 when his motorcycle veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a 2015 International truck.

A 27-year-old Gresham man was driving the truck at the time of the crash. He was unhurt.

Police closed Highway 219 for 5 1/2 hours to investigate the crash.
