A motorcyclist was thrown from his bike after failing to yield for a traffic stop in Sparks on Tuesday night, according to Sergeant Jace Thelin.

Thelin says that just before 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 officers with the Sparks Police Department observed a motorcycle with an unreadable license plate in the area of McCarran Blvd. & Prater Wy.

When police attempted to make a traffic stop, the motorcycle rider fled through a parking lot and then east on E. Prater Wy. at a very high-rate of speed, says Sgt. Thelin.

Due to the danger of pursuing the motorcycle in traffic on Halloween night, officers did not continue the pursuit onto E. Prater Wy.

Several witnesses observed the motorcycle continuing on E. Prater Wy. passing Marina Gateway Dr. still at a high-rate of speed even without police pursuing.

Thelin says the motorcyclist then ran a red light at E. Prater Wy. & Pullman Dr., striking an SUV that was crossing the intersection, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected from the bike. The occupants of the SUV were not injured.

The biker was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The intersection was closed for over an hour for the crash investigation.

The felony eluding investigation is being conducted by the Sparks Police Department. The identity of the suspect involved has not been released.

The Sparks Police Department is asking for any witnesses that have not already been interviewed by police to contact Sparks Police Dispatch at 353-2231 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
