Every day we delve into our picture archives to reprint a photograph on our letters page.
Our Remember When picture often strikes a chord with readers – reminding them of years gone by and sometimes reuniting friends after many years.
Here are the Remember When pictures printed from the past week, July 31 to August 5.

Students and teachers from the Mid-Warwickshire College of Education, Leamington, are photographed bound for adventure behind the Iron Curtain.
The group, led by sociology lecturer Gareth Evans, were preparing to walk and climb in Poland’s Tatra mountains after travelling overland through Belgium and East and West Germany. They would be camping for most of the trip but accommodation at universities and youth hostels was also booked. The group prepared for their expedition with hiking and rock climbing exercises in Wales and Devon.

Girl Guides faced a giant challenge when they volunteered to wash a double decker bus to raise money for disabled children.
Members of the 27th St Albans company in Stratford Street, Stoke, Coventry, were taking part in a sponsored car wash fortnight organised by the Children’s Society.
There were prizes for the most unusual vehicle washed and the Coventry Motor Museum agreed to let them tackle a 1963 Daimler bus.
Armed with sponges, clothes and chamois leathers, the girls had to use mobile scaffolding and hoses to reach the top of the bus, but they did a sterling job and it was soon looking spick and span.

Winnie Lakin passed away in 2003, at the age of 95, having served on the city council for 30 years. She was Lord Mayor at the time of the Sky Blues’ 1987 FA Cup final triumph in 1987.
